The International Robert Schumann Choir Competition is hosted by the organization INTERKULTUR in cooperation with the City of Zwickau. INTERKULTUR is known as initiator and organizer of international choir competitions around the world. Since its foundation more than 20 years ago the globally operating association has organized more than 170 contests and festivals for more than 8 500 choirs with approximately 375 000 singers from around 100 countries.
The competition in Zwickau started off in 1992, taking place every three years. Since 1998 it takes place every four years. The previous winners are evidence of its internationality, coming from Germany, Canada, Lithuania, Slovenia, Hungary, Latvia and the USA. Most recently the US women’s choir iSing Silicon Valley conducted by Jennah Delp Somers received this prestigious award.
